LENT AND HOLY WEEK

"The purpose of Lent is not to force on us a few formal obligations, but to ‘soften’ our heart so that it may open itself to the realities of the Spirit, to experience the hidden ‘thirst and hunger’ for communion with God.”
-Alexander Schmemann, Great Lent

Letter from Pastor Kyle:
Dear Christ Presbyterian Church,
Once again the season of lent is upon us. Lent is a special 40-day period, excluding Sundays, that the church has historically set aside for reflection and preparation prior to Easter. The number 40 harkens back to the 40 years Israel spent in the wilderness in preparation for entering the Promised Land, and also to the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness doing battle with Satan in preparation for his earthly ministry.
While God has not given his church a specific calendar, the example of Israel shows us the benefit of ordering our corporate life around an alternative calendar and of memorializing the great things God has done (Ex 12:2–14; Josh 4:1–7).
The church calendar is our servant and not our master. It helps us organize our Scripture reading, prayer, meditation, and corporate worship . These are the ordinary ways that God meets us.
Below you will find a few resources to aid your own engagement with God over this season.
