We also believe God is calling us to change the way we think about people’s connection, service, and identity as it relates to the church.

Sunday Worship Teams
Our Sunday worship is the result of a cooperative effort of all our staff and volunteers to answer God’s call to worship. Each of the following teams plays a vital role in making Sunday worship possible, accessible, and beautiful.
Hospitality Team
- Goal: Create a welcoming environment with coffee or prepare the Lord’s Supper.
- Responsibilities: Arrive early to set up and clean coffee stations, prepare bread and wine for communion, serve every 4-5 weeks.
- Ideal for: Those who enjoy serving behind the scenes.

Security Team
- Goal: Ensure the safety and care of church attendees.
- Responsibilities: Monitor the service with a partner, serve once a month.
- Ideal for: Those attentive to safety and care.

AV Team
- Goal: Make our Sunday worship more accessible through technology such as ProPresenter, cameras for recording our service, and quality audio.
- Responsibilities: Operate booth equipment, serve once a month, rehearse at 8:30 AM on Sunday morning before worship.
- Ideal for: Those who enjoy tech and behind-the-scenes work.

Music Team
- Goal: Lead the congregation in singing using vocal or instrumental talents.
- Responsibilities: Serve 1-3 Sundays per month, rehearse at 8:30 AM. Audition required.
- Ideal for: Musicians with a desire to use their gifts to lead others in worship.

Pre-Service Learning Team
- Goal: Support the pre-service learning class with logistics and coffee.
- Responsibilities: Arrive at 8:30 AM to brew coffee, set signs, assist with the class from 9-9:45 AM. Serve once or twice a month during Spring or Fall.
- Ideal for: Early risers who enjoy supporting learning.

Service Leader Team
- Goal: Lead the congregation in worship through prayers and Scripture readings.
- Responsibilities: Lead parts of the liturgy such as the Call to Worship, Intercessory Prayer, and Scripture reading, or serve communion. Serve once every 6 weeks.
- Ideal for: Those who desire to lead in worship and prayer and can speak before a crowd.

Children’s Worship Team
- Goal: Worship with children of all ages, modeling God’s love and sharing His Word.
- Responsibilities: Serve approximately two Sundays per quarter. Complete application, background check, and training. Various roles include children’s worship leader, assistant, and nursery caregiver.
- Ideal for: Those wanting to model worship for children and nurture their experience of Christ through community.

Connect Teams
God extends a gracious and warm welcome to all people. The following teams play a vital role in representing God’s welcome by extending love and warmth to long-time members and newcomers alike.
Welcome Lunch Team
- Goal: Help newcomers feel connected by sharing a meal and conversation.
- Responsibilities: Take newcomers to lunch once a month, serve once every 4-6 months.
- Ideal for: Those passionate about welcoming newcomers to the church community and those with a capacity to initiate conversations.

Greeting Team
- Goal: Extend God’s love by making a warm first impression and create a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers as they visit CPC.
- Responsibilities: Arrive at 9:45 AM, serve 1-2 times every 6 weeks by greeting at coffee stations, handing out bulletins, showing people to their seats, and being welcoming presence to introduce people to CPC.
- Ideal for: Those with a friendly, welcoming spirit.

Event Teams
God calls us to be a sign and witness of his kingdom not only as individuals, but also as a community. To this end, we run various events throughout the year to express our collective witness to the people of this city. These teams help to design and run these events.
Cooking/Baking Team
- Goal: Provide food and treats for special events and feast days.
- Responsibilities: Cook or bake as needed for events like Christmas or Easter.
- Ideal for: Those who enjoy cooking or baking on a flexible schedule.

Special Events Team
- Goal: Assist with practical tasks at church & community events.
- Responsibilities: Help with tasks like waiting tables, moving chairs, serving wine at First Thursday, or arranging flowers for events.
- Ideal for: Those who enjoy hands-on work and supporting events.

Retreat Support Team
- Goal: Support the planning and execution of church retreats.
- Responsibilities: Contribute to our retreat planning in areas such as event logistics, graphic design, or music.
- Ideal for: Those who enjoy teamwork and helping plan retreat experiences.

Sanctuary Design Team
- Goal: Create beautiful, worship-inspiring designs for the sanctuary.
- Responsibilities: Plan and install designs 5-6 times a year to enhance the worship space.
- Ideal for: Those with an eye for design and creativity.

Discipleship Teams
The following teams participate in God’s mission by taking on leadership roles that communicate God’s love through teaching, hospitality, discernment, and wise stewardship of the resources God has given to our church.
Youth Ministry Team
- Goal: Support and guide teenagers through their faith and challenges.
- Responsibilities: Mentor and lead middle and/or high school students in their spiritual growth, offering love, wisdom, and compassion.
- Ideal for: Those with a heart for helping teenagers navigate faith and life.

College Ministry Team
- Goal: Build relationships with college students and support their spiritual growth.
- Responsibilities: Host and organize 3-4 college lunches per year and engage with students at Sunday worship, or provide rides from Westmont for other college students.
- Ideal for: Those who enjoy relationship-building with college students.

Groups Team
- Goal: Build community through study, discussion, and prayer in small groups.
- Responsibilities: Host or lead a weekly group, or create and lead a new group of your interest. Commit for a term (~9 weeks) in Fall, Winter, or Spring.
- Ideal for: Those passionate about fostering relationships and spiritual growth.

Leadership Team
- Goal: Lead and shepherd the congregation through elder, deacon, and co-laborer roles.
- Responsibilities: Elders focus on spiritual needs, deacons on physical and financial needs, and co-laborers support both. Requires nomination, training, and a 2-3 year commitment.
- Ideal for: Those who are called to lead God’s church through word and deed.

Mission & Mercy Teams
God desires that His church cares for the vulnerable of our world and ministers the Gospel to them. The following teams serve by working to fulfill this mission locally and globally.
Meal Train Team
- Goal: Provide meals to those in need as an expression of God’s love.
- Responsibilities: Sign up to provide meals when someone is in need, as requested.
- Ideal for: Those who enjoy cooking or are able to contribute financially to provide meals.

Global Outreach Team
- Goal: Support missionaries and spread the gospel globally.
- Responsibilities: Serve 2-year terms and support missionaries and global partners through regular communication and prayer.
- Ideal for: Members passionate about global outreach and sharing the gospel.

Jail Ministry Team
- Goal: Minister the Gospel to those in jail.
- Responsibilities: Commit to regularly visit and minister in the jail and undergo a background check. Serve every 4-6 weeks.
- Ideal for: Those who desire to minister the Gospel to incarcerated people.

Prayer Team
- Goal: Praise and thank God for his work among us and intercede for the needs of the church and the world.
- Responsibilities: Commit to pray regularly alongside others for the people and ministries of the church, especially when acute needs arise. Gathered prayer will happen on occasion as determined by the availability of group members and needs of the church.
- Ideal for: Those who love to pray and believe that God uses the prayers of his people.

CPC Gallery Team
- Goal: Curate and promote art that reflects God’s beauty and contributes to the flourishing of Santa Barbara.
- Responsibilities: Curate exhibits, promote the gallery, and install exhibits 4 times a year.
- Ideal for: Those connected to the art community with time to promote the gallery.

Serve Santa Barbara Team
- Goal: Serve those in need through local partnerships.
- Responsibilities: Volunteer with organizations like Immigrant Hope, Salvation Army, and the Faro Center, serving once a month.
- Ideal for: Those passionate about showing kindness and mercy to the vulnerable.
